 The library holds a unique, large collection of domestic and foreign documents translated into 247 languages. The library’s stock numbers now over 43 million units.
There are specialized collections of maps, notes, phonograms, rare books, books of art, dissertations, newspapers, and so on in the Russian state library funds.

The Russian state library ensures and facilitates access to all stacks in the interest of science, culture, and educational development by means of catalogues and card systems, and various forms of exhibition work.

Every day over 400 new readers join the library. Its reading rooms have 2,103 seats and register about 4,000 visitors per day. Readers are given about 32 thousands items and rendered all necessary library bibliographical services.

 The Russian state library offers services of science data and a center for culture and art. It provides informational support for cultural activities in Russia on the basis of revelation, gathering, systemization and analysis of Russian and foreign documentary literature.

Scientists from the RSL work on large-scale projects, such as 'Russia’s Memory', 'Revelation, Registration and Preservation of rare significant books of the Russian Federation', 'Coordinated Acquisition with the documents 'rossiki'.
Library specialists are engaged in unique work on preserving and restoring documents.
The Russian state library collaborates and constantly keeps in touch with libraries from all over the world and international professional organizations, such as the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the International Organization for Standardizations (ISO), and UNESCO.
On the initiative of the RSL, the Library Assembly of Eurasia was established. Thanks to its successful work management of the library collaborates and exchanges information with other libraries in the CIS in order to keep common informational and cultural space.
